Richard Hesse, MD

• Dr. Hesse succeeded Dr. Thom Zimmerman as Chairman in 1984. He has served as president of the Louisiana-Mississippi Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology Society and is the author of numerous articles concerning oculoplastics, orbital tumors and orbital blood flow to the optic nerve.
•  Dr. Hesse graduated with highest honors from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and earned his medical degree from Tulane, where he also graduated with honors. After his internship at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, he entered the US Air Force and attained the rank of Major. Upon discharge he returned to New Orleans and completed his ophthalmology residency at Ochsner.
• Dr. Hesse joined the Ochsner staff in 1980 and currently holds a Clinical Associate Professorship at LSU. His post-doctoral education includes an executive MBA degree in healthcare clinics from Tulane.
• Dr. Hesse is a board certified ophthalmologist and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In 2002, the Consumer Research Council selected him as one of the “top ophthalmologists in America.”
